The Sessile Oak is the national tree of Wales. A large deciduous tree, it grows up to 40 metres tall and often ages to 300-500 years old, although individuals of 1,000 years old are known. Oak often symbolises strength and endurance, and historically it has been used for a variety of purposes from ship building to making wine barrels.
